Miniature Niagara: Witness the Majesty of Shifen Waterfall Guide

Shifen Waterfall, often referred to as the "Little Niagara of Taiwan," is a breathtaking natural wonder located in the Pingxi District of New Taipei City, near Ruifang. This cascading waterfall plunges over a wide rock face, creating a spectacular display of power and beauty. Surrounded by lush greenery and scenic hiking trails, Shifen Waterfall is a popular destination for nature lovers and those seeking a refreshing escape from the city. The waterfall's formation is a result of the Keelung River flowing over a layer of resistant sandstone. Over time, the river has eroded the softer rock beneath, creating the dramatic drop that characterizes Shifen Waterfall. The area surrounding the waterfall has been developed into a park, with viewing platforms and walking paths that allow visitors to appreciate the natural beauty from various angles. Visitors can admire the waterfall from multiple viewing platforms, each offering a unique perspective. The park also features hiking trails that lead through the surrounding forest, providing opportunities for exploration and relaxation. Shifen Old Street, located nearby, is a charming village known for its sky lanterns. Visitors can purchase a lantern, write their wishes on it, and release it into the sky, a tradition believed to bring good luck. Shifen Old Street also offers a variety of local snacks and street food, including peanut ice cream rolls and Taiwanese sausages.
