Victory Star Village Guide
Step Back in Time: Explore the Charm of Victory Star Village Guide
Victory Star Village is a beautifully preserved military dependents' village, offering a glimpse into Taiwan's past. These villages, known as "眷村" (juàncūn), were built to house soldiers and their families who followed the Kuomintang government to Taiwan after the Chinese Civil War. Victory Star Village stands as a testament to their lives and experiences. Established in the 1950s, Victory Star Village was home to military personnel and their families. The village's architecture reflects the simple, functional design of the era, with closely packed houses and narrow alleyways. Over time, many of these villages were demolished, but Victory Star Village has been carefully preserved and revitalized, offering visitors a chance to step back in time and experience the unique atmosphere of these communities. Today, Victory Star Village has been transformed into a cultural park, with many of the original houses converted into cafes, restaurants, art studios, and shops selling local crafts. Visitors can wander through the village, explore the historic buildings, and learn about the lives of the people who once lived there. The village often hosts cultural events and performances, adding to its vibrant atmosphere. While not a specific culinary tradition of the village itself, many of the restaurants offer traditional Taiwanese dishes that were commonly eaten in these communities.
