Qixingtan Beach (Seven Star Lake) Guide
Qixingtan Beach: Where the Mountains Meet the Sea Guide
Experience the raw beauty of Taiwan's coastline at Qixingtan Beach, also known as Seven Star Lake. Unlike typical sandy beaches, Qixingtan is characterized by its stunning pebble shoreline, dramatic cliffs, and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. With the majestic Central Mountain Range as a backdrop, this beach offers a unique and unforgettable coastal experience. It's a perfect spot for a scenic walk, a relaxing picnic, or simply soaking in the breathtaking scenery. Despite its name, Qixingtan is not actually a lake. The name originates from a nearby lagoon that was filled in during the Japanese colonial period. The area was then used as a military airport, and later developed into the scenic coastal area we know today. The beach's unique pebble composition is a result of the Liwu River carrying down rocks and sediment from the mountains over millions of years. Qixingtan holds cultural significance for the local indigenous communities, who have traditionally relied on the sea for sustenance. At Qixingtan Beach, you can enjoy a variety of activities. Take a leisurely stroll along the pebble beach, listening to the soothing sound of the waves. Rent a bike and cycle along the coastal path, enjoying the stunning views. Have a picnic on the beach and watch the sunrise or sunset. Visit the nearby Qixingtan Scenic Area, which features a park, a museum, and a stargazing platform. While swimming is generally discouraged due to strong currents, you can enjoy wading in the shallows. Several restaurants and cafes near the beach offer fresh seafood and local Taiwanese cuisine. Be sure to try some grilled squid or seafood noodles.
