The Altstadt is a pedestrian-friendly zone, making it perfect for leisurely exploration. From the iconic Zytturm clock tower to the quaint shops and cafes, there's something to captivate every visitor. Zug's history dates back to the Roman era, but the Altstadt as we know it today began to take shape in the Middle Ages. The Zytturm, built in the 13th century, served as a watchtower and a symbol of the city's power. Over the centuries, the Altstadt has witnessed numerous historical events, from the signing of important treaties to the rise and fall of local industries. The well-preserved architecture reflects the city's rich past and its evolution over time. Explore the Zytturm, climb to the top for panoramic views of the city and lake. Stroll along the lakeside promenade, enjoy a coffee at a charming cafe, or browse the unique shops selling local crafts and souvenirs. Visit the St. Oswald Church, a beautiful example of Gothic architecture. For a taste of local cuisine, try the Zuger Kirschtorte, a cherry liqueur cake that is a regional specialty. Many restaurants in the Altstadt offer traditional Swiss dishes as well.
