Embark on an unforgettable journey to the Gornergrat, a mountain ridge offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Matterhorn and surrounding peaks. The Gornergrat Railway, Europe's highest open-air cog railway, provides a comfortable and scenic ascent to the summit, making it accessible to visitors of all ages and abilities. Prepare to be mesmerized by the stunning alpine landscape that unfolds before your eyes. The Gornergrat Railway boasts a rich history, dating back to its inauguration in 1898. It was a pioneering feat of engineering, designed to transport tourists to the magnificent views offered by the Gornergrat. Over the years, the railway has been modernized, but it retains its charm and historical significance. The journey itself is a trip through time, offering glimpses into the past while showcasing the beauty of the present. At the Gornergrat, you can indulge in a variety of activities. Capture stunning photographs of the Matterhorn, explore the Kulmhotel Gornergrat, one of the highest hotels in the Swiss Alps, or visit the Zooom the Matterhorn, an interactive exhibition that brings the mountain to life. Hiking trails of varying difficulty levels are also available, allowing you to immerse yourself in the alpine environment. Don't forget to savor a meal at one of the restaurants with panoramic views, offering traditional Swiss cuisine. While not unique to the Gornergrat itself, Zermatt is known for its Valaisian specialties like cheese fondue, raclette, and dried meat platters, which you can enjoy at the summit restaurants.
