Experience the Thrill: Lauberhorn Races and Scenic Views Guide

Welcome to the Lauberhorn, a legendary destination in the Swiss Alps, renowned for hosting the world-famous Lauberhorn ski races. Even if you're not visiting during the race season, the Lauberhorn offers breathtaking panoramic views and a chance to experience the heart of Swiss alpine culture. The area is a must-see for any visitor to the Jungfrau region, offering a blend of adrenaline-pumping history and stunning natural beauty. The Lauberhorn's history is deeply intertwined with the development of skiing as a sport. The first Lauberhorn ski race was held in 1930, quickly establishing itself as one of the most challenging and prestigious events on the World Cup circuit. The downhill course is particularly famous for its length, speed, and iconic sections like the Hundschopf (dog's head jump) and the Kernen-S jump. Over the years, the race has become a symbol of Swiss sporting heritage, attracting thousands of spectators and participants from around the globe. Beyond the races, the Lauberhorn offers a variety of activities. Hiking trails abound, providing stunning views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks. In the summer, mountain biking is popular. Of course, during the winter months, skiing and snowboarding are the main attractions. You can even take a guided tour of the Lauberhorn race course (outside of race season) to learn about its history and challenges. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition unique to the Lauberhorn itself, you'll find traditional Swiss restaurants in nearby Wengen serving hearty alpine fare like fondue, raclette, and rösti.

Transportation

The Lauberhorn is accessible via train from Wengen. Wengen is a car-free village, so you'll need to take a train from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen first. From Wengen, take the Wengernalpbahn (WAB) cogwheel railway up to Kleine Scheidegg. From Kleine Scheidegg, you can either hike to the Lauberhorn area or take a short ski lift ride during the winter season.
