Goldau Zoo: Where Wildlife Roams Free! Guide

Welcome to Goldau Zoo, a unique and captivating wildlife park nestled in the heart of Switzerland! Unlike traditional zoos, Goldau Zoo focuses on the natural behavior and habitats of its animals. Here, you'll encounter over 100 native and European animal species roaming freely across a sprawling 42-hectare landscape. Prepare to be amazed as you wander through diverse habitats, from rocky landscapes and forests to wetlands, observing animals in environments that closely mimic their natural homes. It's an immersive experience that brings you closer to nature than you ever thought possible. Goldau Zoo's history is rooted in a devastating natural event. In 1806, a massive rockslide reshaped the landscape, creating the unique terrain that now defines the zoo. The zoo itself was founded in 1925 with the aim of preserving and showcasing native wildlife. Over the years, it has evolved into a leading conservation center, actively involved in breeding programs for endangered species and promoting environmental education. The zoo's commitment to animal welfare and conservation makes it a truly special place to visit. A visit to Goldau Zoo offers a plethora of activities for all ages. Observe majestic wolves and playful lynx in their spacious enclosures. Get up close and personal with deer and mouflon in the free-range area, where you can even feed them! The zoo also features a large playground for children, a petting zoo, and various educational exhibits. Don't miss the daily animal feedings and presentations, where you can learn fascinating facts about the zoo's inhabitants. While Goldau Zoo doesn't have a specific culinary tradition, the on-site restaurants offer a variety of Swiss and international dishes to satisfy your appetite after a day of exploring.
