Aquatis: Dive into a World of Aquatic Wonders Guide
Prepare to be amazed at Aquatis Aquarium-Vivarium, Europe's largest freshwater aquarium! This isn't just another aquarium; it's an immersive journey through five continents, showcasing the incredible diversity of freshwater ecosystems. From the mighty Amazon to the depths of the Mekong River, you'll encounter fascinating creatures and learn about the importance of preserving these vital habitats. Get ready to explore a world teeming with life, right in the heart of Lausanne. Aquatis is a relatively new attraction, having opened its doors in 2017. However, its mission is deeply rooted in conservation and education. The aquarium aims to raise awareness about the fragility of freshwater ecosystems and the threats they face, such as pollution and habitat loss. Through interactive exhibits and engaging displays, Aquatis strives to inspire visitors to become stewards of the environment. The architecture of the building itself is also noteworthy, designed to resemble a giant drop of water. At Aquatis, you can wander through themed zones, each representing a different freshwater environment. Marvel at the colorful fish of the Amazon rainforest, observe the playful otters of the European rivers, and encounter the fearsome Komodo dragons in the Indonesian section. The aquarium also features a vivarium, home to a variety of reptiles and amphibians. Interactive exhibits allow you to learn about the unique adaptations of these creatures and the challenges they face in the wild. While Aquatis doesn't have a specific culinary tradition, the on-site restaurant offers a variety of options to refuel after your aquatic adventure.
