Icehotel Guide
Icehotel: Sleep in a Work of Art Guide
Welcome to the Icehotel, a truly unique and ephemeral experience located in the small village of Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, about 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. Each year, artists from around the world gather to sculpt a brand new hotel entirely from ice and snow harvested from the Torne River. It's more than just a place to stay; it's a constantly evolving art exhibition that melts away each spring, only to be reborn again the following winter. Prepare to be amazed by the intricate designs, the ethereal beauty, and the sheer ingenuity of this incredible structure. The Icehotel's history began in 1989 when it was first built as an art project. It started small, but quickly gained international attention, growing in size and complexity each year. The concept is simple yet brilliant: use the natural resources of the Arctic winter to create a temporary structure that celebrates art, design, and the beauty of the environment. The hotel is rebuilt annually, ensuring that each visit is a completely new and unforgettable experience. The Icehotel 365, a permanent ice structure, allows visitors to experience the magic of the Icehotel year-round. A visit to the Icehotel offers a range of activities. Of course, the main draw is spending a night in one of the uniquely designed ice rooms or art suites. Don't worry, you'll be provided with thermal sleeping bags to keep you warm! Beyond sleeping, you can take a guided tour of the hotel to learn about its construction and the artists involved. You can also try ice sculpting, enjoy a drink at the ice bar, or participate in winter activities like dog sledding, snowmobiling, and Northern Lights tours. The Icehotel Restaurant offers a fine dining experience with local delicacies.
