Åre's history as a ski destination dates back to the early 20th century, with the first ski lift being built in 1910. Since then, it has grown into a modern and sophisticated resort, hosting numerous international ski competitions, including the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. The resort is constantly evolving, with ongoing investments in infrastructure and facilities to ensure a top-notch experience for visitors. The main activity is, of course, skiing and snowboarding! But Åre offers so much more. Try dog sledding through the snowy landscapes, ice climbing on frozen waterfalls, snowshoeing through pristine forests, or even paragliding over the breathtaking scenery. The village itself is a hub of activity, with après-ski gatherings, live music, and delicious dining options. Don't miss the chance to try some traditional Swedish cuisine, like reindeer stew or cloudberry jam.
