Bawa Gardens Guide
A Tropical Paradise: Discover the Serene Beauty of Bawa Gardens Guide
Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and find tranquility at Bawa Gardens, also known as Lunuganga Estate. This stunning landscape garden was the creation of renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa, and it showcases his unique vision and architectural philosophy. The gardens are a harmonious blend of nature and design, featuring lush vegetation, serene water features, and carefully placed sculptures. It's a place to wander, reflect, and appreciate the beauty of the natural world. Geoffrey Bawa (1919-2003) was a leading figure in the architectural movement known as Tropical Modernism. Lunuganga was his country estate, which he began developing in 1948 and continued to refine throughout his life. The gardens reflect his innovative approach to design, which emphasized the integration of buildings with their natural surroundings. He drew inspiration from both Western and Eastern traditions, creating a unique and timeless aesthetic. Visitors can explore the various sections of the gardens, each with its own distinct character. Wander along the winding paths, discover hidden courtyards, and admire the stunning views of the Dedduwa Lake. Take a boat ride on the lake for a different perspective of the gardens. The estate also offers accommodation, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the peaceful atmosphere. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition directly tied to the gardens, nearby restaurants in Bentota and Beruwala offer delicious Sri Lankan cuisine, often featuring fresh seafood.
