Cadaqués Village Guide

Cadaqués: A Coastal Gem of the Costa Brava Guide

Welcome to Cadaqués, a picturesque village nestled on the rugged Costa Brava coastline of Spain. This charming town, with its whitewashed houses, narrow winding streets, and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, has long been a haven for artists and those seeking tranquility. Prepare to be captivated by its unique atmosphere, vibrant culture, and breathtaking natural beauty. Cadaqués boasts a rich history, having been relatively isolated until the late 19th century, which helped preserve its unique character. Its strategic location made it a target for pirates in the past, leading to the construction of defensive walls, remnants of which can still be seen today. The village gained international recognition in the 20th century as a favorite retreat of Salvador Dalí, who found inspiration in its surreal landscapes and vibrant atmosphere. His presence helped transform Cadaqués into a hub for artists and intellectuals. Visitors to Cadaqués can enjoy a variety of activities. Stroll through the charming streets, browse the local art galleries, or relax on one of the beautiful beaches. Take a boat trip along the coast to explore hidden coves and admire the dramatic cliffs. For art enthusiasts, a visit to the Salvador Dalí House-Museum in nearby Portlligat is a must. Indulge in the local cuisine, which features fresh seafood and traditional Catalan dishes. Don't miss the opportunity to sample the local wine, grown in the surrounding vineyards.
