Santiago Cathedral: A Gothic Gem in the Heart of Bilbao Guide

Whether you're a history buff, an architecture enthusiast, or simply seeking a moment of tranquility, the Santiago Cathedral is a must-see. The history of the Santiago Cathedral stretches back to the 14th century, although its origins may be even older. Built on the site of a former hermitage, the cathedral has undergone several renovations and expansions over the centuries, resulting in a fascinating blend of architectural styles. The Gothic facade is particularly impressive, with its soaring spires, intricate carvings, and beautiful stained-glass windows. The cathedral played a significant role in the development of Bilbao, serving as a center of religious and social life for centuries. Visitors to the Santiago Cathedral can explore its stunning interior, admire the intricate details of the chapels and altars, and learn about the cathedral's rich history. Take a guided tour to discover hidden gems and hear fascinating stories about the cathedral's past. Attend a mass to experience the cathedral's spiritual atmosphere firsthand. While the cathedral itself doesn't have a specific culinary tradition, the surrounding Casco Viejo (Old Town) is a foodie paradise. Indulge in pintxos (Basque tapas) at the numerous bars and restaurants, and savor the flavors of Basque cuisine. Don't miss the opportunity to try "bacalao pil pil" or "marmitako" (tuna stew).
