San Juan Beach Guide

San Juan Beach: Sun, Sand, and Endless Fun! Guide

San Juan Beach, or Playa de San Juan, is a sprawling, golden-sand paradise located just north of Alicante city center. It's one of the most popular beaches in the region, known for its wide expanse of soft sand, clear turquoise waters, and lively atmosphere. Whether you're looking to relax under the Mediterranean sun, enjoy thrilling water sports, or indulge in delicious local cuisine, San Juan Beach offers something for everyone. While San Juan Beach doesn't have a deep historical background like some other attractions in Alicante, its development as a tourist destination is interesting. Originally a more secluded area, it experienced significant growth in the latter half of the 20th century, transforming into the vibrant and well-equipped beach we see today. This transformation reflects the growth of tourism in the Costa Blanca region and the increasing popularity of Alicante as a holiday destination. Visitors to San Juan Beach can enjoy a wide range of activities. Sunbathing and swimming are, of course, the most popular. You can also try your hand at windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, or jet skiing. The beach is lined with numerous chiringuitos (beach bars) and restaurants offering everything from refreshing drinks and tapas to full meals. The promenade is perfect for a leisurely stroll or bike ride, and there are plenty of shops selling souvenirs and beach essentials. The area is also known for its paella restaurants, offering a taste of authentic Valencian cuisine.

Transportation

You can reach San Juan Beach easily by tram (Line L3) from Alicante city center. Several bus lines also serve the beach, including lines 21, 22, and 22N. These buses run frequently and connect the beach with various parts of Alicante.
