Seopjikoji: Where Azure Seas Meet Volcanic Shores Guide

Prepare to be mesmerized by Seopjikoji, a stunning cape jutting out into the sea on the eastern coast of Jeju Island. This dramatic landscape is a feast for the eyes, offering panoramic views of the ocean, unique rock formations, and vibrant flora that changes with the seasons. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a photography buff, or simply seeking a tranquil escape, Seopjikoji promises an unforgettable experience. Seopjikoji's beauty is deeply intertwined with local legends. The name "Seopji" refers to the narrow isthmus connecting the cape to the mainland, while "Koji" is an old Jeju dialect word for cape. The area is also known for its volcanic rock formations, including the iconic "Seonnyeobawi" (Standing Rock), which resembles a woman standing tall against the sea. This rock is central to a local legend about a dragon king's son who fell in love with a beautiful fairy. A visit to Seopjikoji offers a variety of activities. Stroll along the coastal paths, breathing in the fresh sea air and admiring the wildflowers that bloom in spring. Climb to the top of the lighthouse for breathtaking views of the surrounding coastline. Capture stunning photographs of the dramatic cliffs and the crashing waves. For those interested in Korean dramas, Seopjikoji has served as a filming location for several popular shows, adding to its allure. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition tied directly to Seopjikoji itself, you'll find numerous restaurants in the nearby Seongsan area offering fresh seafood and other Jeju specialties.
