Skukuza Rest Camp Guide

Skukuza: Kruger's Heartbeat, Where Adventure Begins Guide

Welcome to Skukuza Rest Camp, the largest and most popular rest camp in Kruger National Park. Situated on the banks of the Sabie River, Skukuza serves as a vibrant hub for visitors seeking an unforgettable safari experience. With its extensive facilities and prime location, Skukuza offers a gateway to explore the diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife of Kruger. Skukuza's history dates back to the early 20th century when it was established as the headquarters of Kruger National Park. Named after James Stevenson-Hamilton, the park's first warden, affectionately known as "Skukuza" (meaning "the sweeper" in Tsonga), the camp has grown from a humble ranger station to a bustling tourist destination. Its central location and historical significance make it a vital part of Kruger's heritage. At Skukuza, you can choose from a wide range of activities, including guided game drives, bush walks, and birdwatching tours. The camp boasts a variety of accommodation options, from luxury lodges to comfortable bungalows and campsites. Skukuza also features a restaurant, a shop, a swimming pool, and even a golf course. The nearby Lake Panic Bird Hide is a must-visit for bird enthusiasts. While Skukuza doesn't have a unique culinary tradition, the camp restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring both local and international cuisine. You can also enjoy a traditional South African braai (barbecue) at your campsite.
