Gay's Cheese Farm: A Taste of Karoo Tradition Guide

Welcome to Gay's Cheese Farm, a delightful destination nestled in the heart of Prince Albert, South Africa. More than just a cheese shop, it's an experience that tantalizes your taste buds and immerses you in the artisanal traditions of the Karoo. Prepare to be charmed by the rustic setting, the friendly atmosphere, and, of course, the incredible cheese! Gay van Hasselt, the farm's founder, started crafting cheese in the early 1990s, driven by a passion for quality and a desire to showcase the unique flavors of the region. Using traditional methods and locally sourced milk, Gay built a reputation for producing exceptional cheeses that quickly became a local favorite. Today, the farm continues to uphold these values, offering a range of handcrafted cheeses that reflect the Karoo's rich agricultural heritage. At Gay's Cheese Farm, you can indulge in cheese tastings, learn about the cheese-making process, and purchase a variety of cheeses, including their famous Karoo Crumble, creamy Camembert, and tangy Feta. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy a cheese platter with local wines on the farm's veranda, soaking in the stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The farm also offers light lunches and other local delicacies.
