Whether you're looking for a challenging hike, a relaxing day on the beach, or a glimpse into the past, Robberg has something to offer everyone. Prepare to be captivated by the raw beauty and untamed spirit of this remarkable reserve. Robberg's history stretches back millennia, with evidence of Middle Stone Age human occupation found in its caves. These early inhabitants left behind tools and artifacts, providing valuable insights into their lives and the environment they inhabited. Later, the peninsula served as a navigational landmark for sailors and a source of seals and seabirds. In more recent times, Robberg was used as a whaling station and a source of building materials. Today, it is a protected area, preserving its natural and cultural heritage for future generations. Visitors to Robberg can enjoy a variety of activities. Hiking is a popular option, with three marked trails of varying lengths and difficulty, offering stunning coastal views and opportunities to spot wildlife such as seals, dolphins, and whales (during migration season). Swimming and sunbathing are also popular on the beaches, and fishing is permitted in designated areas. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the diverse avian life, including the African Black Oystercatcher and various seabirds. For a truly unique experience, consider a guided tour to learn more about the reserve's history, geology, and ecology. While there are no restaurants within the reserve, packing a picnic to enjoy amidst the stunning scenery is highly recommended.
