A Free-Roaming Paradise for Primates! Guide
Escape to Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, the world's first free-roaming multi-species primate sanctuary. Located near Plettenberg Bay, this unique sanctuary offers a haven for rescued primates from around the globe. Prepare to be enchanted as you wander through the forest, observing these fascinating creatures in a natural and enriching environment. It's an unforgettable experience for animal lovers of all ages. Monkeyland was established in 1998 with the aim of providing a safe and natural environment for primates who had been rescued from captivity. Many of the primates at Monkeyland were previously kept as pets, used in circuses, or subjected to other forms of exploitation. The sanctuary offers them a chance to live a more natural life, free from the constraints of captivity. The sanctuary plays a vital role in primate conservation and education, raising awareness about the importance of protecting these incredible animals and their habitats. Explore the sanctuary on a guided tour, where knowledgeable guides will share insights into the lives of the various primate species. Keep an eye out for lemurs, gibbons, capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and many more! The primates are free to roam throughout the forest, so you'll have the opportunity to observe their natural behaviors. Remember to bring your camera to capture these amazing moments. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition associated with Monkeyland, the nearby town of Plettenberg Bay offers a variety of restaurants serving fresh seafood and other local delicacies.
