Woodbury Lodge Guide
Experience Luxury in the African Bush at Woodbury Lodge Guide
Welcome to Woodbury Lodge, a luxurious and intimate safari experience nestled in the heart of the Amakhala Game Reserve in South Africa. This stunning lodge offers breathtaking views of the surrounding bushveld and a chance to immerse yourself in the raw beauty of the African wilderness. Prepare for unforgettable game drives, exceptional service, and a truly authentic safari adventure. While Woodbury Lodge itself doesn't have a long, storied history, the Amakhala Game Reserve does. The reserve is a collaborative effort between several Eastern Cape farming families who decided to rehabilitate their land from agricultural use back to its natural state. This involved removing fences, reintroducing indigenous wildlife, and creating a sustainable tourism model that benefits both the environment and the local community. Woodbury Lodge plays a vital role in this conservation effort. At Woodbury Lodge, your days will be filled with thrilling activities. Embark on guided game drives in open vehicles, led by experienced rangers who will share their knowledge of the local flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for the "Big Five" – lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and buffalo – as well as a diverse array of other wildlife. You can also enjoy guided bush walks, bird watching, and relaxing by the lodge's pool, soaking in the tranquility of the African landscape. In the evenings, savor delicious meals under the stars, accompanied by the sounds of the African night. While the lodge offers international cuisine, be sure to try some local South African dishes like biltong (dried, cured meat) or bobotie (a spiced minced meat dish).
Transportation
Reaching Woodbury Lodge typically involves flying into Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) Airport (PLZ). From there, you can arrange a transfer with the lodge, which is approximately a 1-hour drive. Self-driving is also an option, but a 4x4 vehicle is recommended due to the gravel roads within the reserve. Be sure to confirm road conditions and directions with the lodge prior to your arrival.
