Red Point Guide
Red Point: Coastal Walks and Panoramic Views Guide
Red Point, a dramatic headland just south of Gairloch, offers some of the most spectacular coastal walks and panoramic views in the Scottish Highlands. The name comes from the distinctive red sandstone cliffs that plunge into the turquoise waters of the Atlantic. Prepare to be mesmerized by the rugged beauty of the coastline, the vast expanse of the ocean, and the distant silhouettes of the Outer Hebrides. The main attraction at Red Point is the network of walking trails that wind along the clifftops and down to the sandy beaches below. The most popular route is a circular walk that takes you past the old World War II lookout post, offering stunning views in all directions. Keep an eye out for wildlife, including seabirds, seals, and even the occasional otter. The beaches at Red Point are also perfect for a picnic or a refreshing dip in the sea (if you're feeling brave!). While Red Point itself doesn't have any restaurants or cafes, Gairloch village is just a short drive away and offers a variety of dining options. Consider trying some locally caught seafood, such as Cullen skink (a creamy smoked haddock soup) or fresh langoustines. For a truly authentic experience, visit a local pub and sample some of the region's finest whiskies.
