Sandwood Bay Guide
Discover the Untamed Beauty of Sandwood Bay Guide
Sandwood Bay, a remote and stunningly beautiful beach on the north-west coast of Scotland, is a true hidden gem. This mile-long stretch of pristine sand is backed by towering dunes and overlooked by the imposing sea stack of Am Buachaille. The bay's isolation and dramatic scenery create a sense of peace and tranquility that is hard to find elsewhere. Sandwood Bay's history is intertwined with the sea and the elements. The bay has witnessed countless storms and shipwrecks, and its remote location has made it a haven for wildlife. The ruins of Sandwood Cottage, once home to a crofting family, stand as a reminder of the area's past. The bay is also said to be haunted by the ghost of a sailor who was shipwrecked nearby. Reaching Sandwood Bay requires a four-mile walk along a well-maintained path from the Blairmore car park. The walk itself is a rewarding experience, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Once at the bay, you can relax on the beach, explore the dunes, and admire the dramatic scenery. Swimming is not recommended due to strong currents. Pack a picnic to enjoy on the beach, as there are no facilities at Sandwood Bay.
