Mina, a valley located a few kilometers east of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, holds immense religious significance for Muslims worldwide. It is best known as the location where pilgrims performing Hajj, the annual Islamic pilgrimage, spend several days in prayer and reflection. Mina's history is deeply intertwined with the story of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Ismail (Ishmael). The stoning of the Jamarat, three pillars representing the devil, is a symbolic reenactment of Ibrahim's rejection of temptation. Mina has been a central location for Hajj rituals for centuries, evolving from a simple encampment to a highly organized and managed city of tents. The primary activity in Mina is participation in the Hajj rituals. Pilgrims spend the 8th, 11th, 12th, and sometimes the 13th days of Dhu al-Hijjah in Mina. During this time, they engage in prayers, supplications, and reflection. A key ritual is the stoning of the Jamarat, which takes place on specific days. While in Mina, pilgrims reside in tents, which are organized by country or region. The Saudi government provides essential services, including food, water, medical care, and security, to ensure the well-being of the pilgrims. Transportation
Mina is primarily accessible during the Hajj season. Transportation is organized by the Saudi government and Hajj authorities. Pilgrims are typically transported by bus from Mecca to Mina. The Mashair Railway (also known as the Mecca Metro) connects Mecca, Mina, and Arafat, providing an alternative transportation option for some pilgrims.
