Furnas Golf Course Guide
Tee Off in Paradise: Experience Golfing Excellence at Furnas Golf Course Guide
Escape to the lush landscapes of Furnas, São Miguel, and discover the stunning Furnas Golf Course. Nestled within a volcanic crater, this 18-hole course offers a unique and challenging golfing experience surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty. Whether you're a seasoned golfer or a beginner, the Furnas Golf Course provides an unforgettable round amidst the Azorean scenery. Originally designed by Mackenzie Ross in 1939 as a 9-hole course, Furnas Golf Course was later expanded to 18 holes in 1992 by Cameron Powell. The course cleverly integrates the natural contours of the volcanic landscape, creating a diverse and challenging layout. The unique setting, combined with the island's mild climate, makes it a popular destination for golfers year-round. Enjoy a round of golf on the meticulously maintained fairways and greens, taking in the panoramic views of the Furnas Valley. The course features a variety of challenges, including strategically placed bunkers, water hazards, and undulating terrain. After your game, relax at the clubhouse, which offers a restaurant and bar with stunning views. Golf lessons and equipment rentals are available for those who are new to the sport or prefer not to travel with their own clubs. While not directly related to the golf course, the Furnas area is famous for its "cozido," a traditional stew cooked underground using volcanic heat, which you can enjoy at local restaurants.
