Morskie Oko, meaning "Eye of the Sea," is the largest and fourth-deepest lake in the Tatra Mountains, located near Zakopane, Poland. Alternatively, you can take a horse-drawn carriage part of the way. Once at the lake, you can hike around its perimeter, enjoying the stunning views from different perspectives. For more experienced hikers, there are trails leading to higher peaks, such as Rysy, the highest peak in Poland. The mountain hut located on the shore of the lake offers food and accommodation. The local culinary tradition includes hearty mountain fare, such as "kwaśnica" (sauerkraut soup) and grilled meats.
Transportation
The most common way to reach the trailhead to Morskie Oko is by bus from Zakopane. Buses depart frequently from the Zakopane bus station (Dworzec Autobusowy) to Palenica Białczańska, the starting point for the hike to the lake. The journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes.
