A Baroque Masterpiece: Home to Chopin's Heart Guide

The Holy Cross Church is one of Warsaw's most important and beautiful churches. Located on Krakowskie Przedmieście (Royal Route), it's a stunning example of Baroque architecture and a significant historical landmark. Beyond its architectural beauty, the church holds a special place in Polish hearts as the final resting place of Frédéric Chopin's heart. The original church on this site was built in the 15th century. However, it was destroyed during the Swedish Deluge in the 17th century. The current Baroque church was constructed between 1679 and 1696, designed by Józef Szymon Bellotti. The church suffered significant damage during World War II, but it was meticulously reconstructed after the war, preserving its original splendor. Visitors can admire the church's ornate interior, including its elaborate altars, sculptures, and paintings. The main attraction is the urn containing the heart of Frédéric Chopin, located in a pillar on the left side of the nave. The church also hosts regular concerts and religious services. It's a place of both spiritual significance and cultural importance, offering a glimpse into Warsaw's rich history and artistic heritage.
