Sweet History: Unveiling Poznań's Croissant Secrets Guide
Welcome to the Croissant Museum (Rogalowe Muzeum Poznania), a unique and interactive experience that delves into the history and tradition of the St. Martin's Croissant, a symbol of Poznań. More than just a museum, it's a live demonstration and storytelling performance that reveals the secrets behind this delicious pastry. Prepare to be entertained and learn about the legend and the baking process in a fun and engaging way. The St. Martin's Croissant, or *Rogal Świętomarciński*, has a rich history dating back to the 19th century. Legend has it that a local baker, inspired by a dream of St. Martin riding a white horse, created the crescent-shaped pastry to resemble the horse's horseshoe. He filled it with white poppy seeds, almonds, and other ingredients to represent the saint's generosity. The tradition of baking and sharing these croissants on St. Martin's Day (November 11th) continues to this day, making it a significant part of Poznań's cultural heritage. At the Croissant Museum, you'll witness a live demonstration of how the St. Martin's Croissant is made, from preparing the dough to adding the signature filling. You'll learn about the ingredients, the baking techniques, and the cultural significance of this iconic pastry. You'll even have the opportunity to participate in the baking process and, of course, taste the freshly baked croissant! The museum offers shows in multiple languages, making it accessible to a wide range of visitors.
