Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center Guide
Palawan Wildlife Rescue: A Sanctuary for Nature Guide
The Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center (PWRCC), formerly known as the Crocodile Farm, is a vital institution dedicated to the conservation and protection of Palawan's unique wildlife. Located near Puerto Princesa, this center offers visitors a chance to learn about the region's diverse ecosystem and the efforts being made to preserve it. It's a must-visit for animal lovers and anyone interested in conservation. The PWRCC was initially established in 1987 to address the growing concern over the dwindling population of Philippine crocodiles due to hunting and habitat loss. Over the years, its mission has expanded to include the rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation of other endangered species native to Palawan, such as the Palawan bearcat (Binturong), various bird species, and other reptiles. The center plays a crucial role in educating the public about the importance of biodiversity and sustainable practices. Visitors to the PWRCC can observe crocodiles of various sizes in their enclosures, learn about their life cycle and conservation status, and even witness feeding time. The center also features a mini-zoo showcasing other Palawan wildlife, including bearcats, monkeys, and various bird species. Educational exhibits provide information about the threats facing these animals and the conservation efforts being undertaken. A souvenir shop offers locally made crafts and products, supporting the center's work and local communities.
