Relax and Rejuvenate: Aguas Calientes Hot Springs Guide

After a long day of exploring Machu Picchu or hiking the surrounding trails, there's no better way to unwind than with a soak in the Aguas Calientes Hot Springs, also known as the BaƱos Termales. Located in the town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), these thermal baths offer a welcome respite for weary travelers. The naturally heated waters are said to have therapeutic properties, perfect for soothing sore muscles and rejuvenating the body and mind. While not steeped in ancient history like Machu Picchu, the Aguas Calientes Hot Springs have a more recent history as a place of relaxation and healing for locals and visitors alike. The town itself grew around the springs, catering to the increasing number of tourists drawn to the area. The hot springs have been developed over time to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all. The main activity, of course, is soaking in the thermal baths! The complex features several pools of varying temperatures, allowing you to find the perfect spot to relax. There are also changing rooms, showers, and a small snack bar. Many visitors enjoy combining a visit to the hot springs with a massage or other spa treatment offered in the town. While in Aguas Calientes, be sure to try some of the local restaurants offering Peruvian cuisine. Many restaurants cater to tourists, offering a variety of dishes from traditional soups and stews to pizzas and pasta.

Transportation

Aguas Calientes is only accessible by train or by foot. The train from Ollantaytambo is the most common way to reach the town. Once in Aguas Calientes, the hot springs are located a short walk from the town center. Follow the signs uphill from the main plaza.
