Kjeåsen Mountain Farm Guide
Kjeåsen: The Eagle's Nest of the Hardangerfjord Guide
Discover Kjeåsen Mountain Farm, a truly unique and breathtaking destination nestled high above the Hardangerfjord. This isolated farm, once considered one of Norway's most inaccessible, offers stunning views and a glimpse into a traditional way of life. Prepare for an unforgettable journey to a place where time seems to stand still. Kjeåsen's history is one of perseverance and resilience. The farm was established in the 1650s, and for centuries, the families who lived there endured a challenging existence, relying on farming and fishing. The only access to the farm was a steep and winding path, making it incredibly isolated. In 1974, a tunnel was blasted through the mountain, finally providing easier access. Today, visitors can drive through the narrow, one-lane tunnel to reach Kjeåsen. Once there, you can explore the farm buildings, hike along the surrounding trails, and soak in the incredible panoramic views of the Hardangerfjord. The views are simply spectacular, offering a bird's-eye perspective of the fjord and the surrounding mountains. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition unique to Kjeåsen itself, the surrounding Hardanger region is known for its fruit orchards and cider production. Consider visiting a local farm to sample these regional specialties.
