Troldhaugen Edvard Grieg Museum Guide
A Composer's Sanctuary: Explore Edvard Grieg's Home Guide
Troldhaugen is the former home of Norway's most famous composer, Edvard Grieg, and his wife, Nina. This idyllic estate, located just outside Bergen, offers a unique insight into the life and work of the renowned musician. Explore the charming villa, wander through the beautiful gardens, and visit the composer's hut where he found inspiration for his music. Edvard Grieg and his wife Nina moved to Troldhaugen in 1885 and lived there for the rest of their lives. The villa was designed by Grieg's cousin, the architect Schak Bull, and reflects the composer's love of nature and Norwegian traditions. Troldhaugen became a gathering place for artists and intellectuals, and Grieg composed many of his most famous works here. After Grieg's death in 1907, Troldhaugen was opened to the public as a museum. At Troldhaugen, you can take a guided tour of the villa, attend a concert in the concert hall, and explore the composer's hut by the lake. The museum also features exhibitions about Grieg's life and music. The surrounding gardens are perfect for a relaxing stroll. While in Bergen, be sure to try "persetorsk" (cod in mustard sauce) or "skillingsboller" (cinnamon buns).
