Transportation
Reaching Whatarangi Beach requires a bit of planning. The most common way is by car. From Wellington, take State Highway 2 to Featherston, then follow the signs to Martinborough and Cape Palliser. The drive is scenic but can be winding and narrow in places, so allow ample time. Once you reach Cape Palliser Road, continue until you see signs for Whatarangi. Be aware that the road to the beach may be unsealed in sections, so a vehicle with good ground clearance is recommended. There is no public transportation directly to Whatarangi Beach.
