National Kandawgyi Botanical Gardens Guide
A Verdant Escape: Discover Myanmar's Botanical Jewel Guide
Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse yourself in the serene beauty of the National Kandawgyi Botanical Gardens in Pyin Oo Lwin. This sprawling garden, a haven of tranquility, offers a diverse collection of flora from around the world, meticulously curated and beautifully displayed. Whether you're a seasoned botanist or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, the gardens provide a captivating experience for all. Established in 1915 by Alex Roger, a Forest Officer, the gardens were initially conceived as a botanical research center. Inspired by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in London, the gardens were designed to showcase the diverse plant life of Myanmar and beyond. Over the years, the gardens have evolved into a popular tourist destination, while still maintaining its commitment to botanical research and conservation. The gardens have survived through world war 2 and have been renovated to its current state. Visitors can explore a variety of themed gardens, including an orchid garden, a rose garden, a bamboo garden, and an Italian garden. Stroll along the picturesque pathways, admire the vibrant colors of the flowers, and breathe in the fresh, fragrant air. For a more active experience, rent a bicycle or take a leisurely boat ride on the lake. The gardens also feature a playground for children, making it a perfect destination for families. Don't miss the aviary, home to a variety of colorful bird species. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition tied directly to the gardens, you can find small vendors selling local snacks and drinks within the grounds.
