Alternatively, you can take a local bus from Mandalay to Amarapura, but be prepared for a more crowded and less comfortable journey. From the Amarapura bus station, you'll need to take a tuk-tuk to the lake. Many guesthouses and hotels in Mandalay can also arrange transportation to Taungthaman Lake.
