Oukaimeden Ski Resort Guide

Skiing in the Sahara? Discover Oukaimeden! Guide

Welcome to Oukaimeden, a truly unique ski resort nestled high in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Imagine skiing with views of the Sahara Desert stretching out before you – a surreal and unforgettable experience. This isn't your typical Alpine resort; it's a rugged, authentic, and often unpredictable adventure that offers a taste of Moroccan culture alongside the thrill of winter sports. While Oukaimeden doesn't boast the perfectly groomed slopes of European resorts, it offers a charm all its own. The resort's history is intertwined with the local Berber communities who have traditionally used the area for grazing their livestock. The ski lifts themselves are often rudimentary, adding to the adventurous feel. Donkeys are frequently used to transport equipment, and the atmosphere is lively and bustling with local families enjoying the snow. Activities in Oukaimeden are centered around skiing and snowboarding, of course. You can rent equipment on-site, though quality can vary. Sledding is also a popular activity, especially for families. Beyond the slopes, consider exploring the surrounding Atlas Mountains on foot or horseback. The views are breathtaking, and you'll have the opportunity to interact with the local Berber people and experience their traditional way of life. Don't forget to sample some traditional Moroccan tagine at one of the local restaurants for a truly authentic experience.
