Established in 1942, Toubkal National Park protects a significant portion of the High Atlas Mountains' unique ecosystem. The park is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including the Barbary macaque, the only primate found north of the Sahara. The Berber people, who have inhabited these mountains for centuries, maintain their traditional way of life in the park's remote villages, adding a rich cultural dimension to the natural landscape. The primary activity in Toubkal National Park is hiking and trekking. Many visitors attempt to summit Jebel Toubkal, a challenging but rewarding climb that typically takes two days. Numerous other trails cater to different skill levels, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. You can also explore the Berber villages, learn about their culture, and enjoy traditional Moroccan hospitality. While hiking, you might be offered tagine cooked over an open fire by local guides, a truly authentic culinary experience.
