Teleférico de Taxco Guide

Soar Above the Silver City: Experience Taxco from Above! Guide

The Teleférico de Taxco, or Taxco Cable Car, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the stunning colonial city of Taxco, Mexico. This is a must-do for any visitor wanting to capture the beauty of the city nestled in the mountains, with its iconic white buildings and red-tiled roofs. The ride itself is a memorable experience, providing a unique perspective on the surrounding landscape. Taxco's history is deeply intertwined with silver mining, dating back to pre-Hispanic times. However, it was the arrival of Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century that truly transformed the city into a major silver production center. The Teleférico was constructed in the late 20th century to provide easier access to the Hotel Monte Taxco, located on a hilltop overlooking the city, and to offer tourists a spectacular vantage point. It quickly became a popular attraction, showcasing the city's beauty and rich history. A ride on the Teleférico is the main activity, offering unparalleled photo opportunities. Once at the top, you can explore the Hotel Monte Taxco, enjoy a meal with a view, or simply relax and soak in the scenery. Taxco is also known for its silver craftsmanship. While at the top, or back in the city, be sure to browse the many shops selling handcrafted silver jewelry and other items. Taxco is famous for its pozole, a traditional Mexican stew, and its mezcal. Many restaurants in Taxco offer stunning views alongside delicious local cuisine.

Transportation

The Teleférico has two stations: one in the city center near the main square (Zócalo) and the other at the Hotel Monte Taxco on the mountain. Taxis are readily available in Taxco and can take you to either station. Local buses also operate within the city, but taxis are generally the more convenient option for tourists.
