Yelapa Guide
Yelapa: A Secluded Paradise Awaits Guide
Discover the magic of Yelapa, a charming and secluded village nestled on the southern shores of Banderas Bay. Accessible only by boat, Yelapa offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta. Imagine pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a laid-back atmosphere where time seems to slow down. This hidden gem is the perfect destination for those seeking relaxation, natural beauty, and a taste of authentic Mexican culture. Yelapa's history is rooted in its indigenous past, with evidence of pre-Hispanic settlements in the area. For centuries, it remained a remote fishing village, largely untouched by the outside world. In recent decades, Yelapa has gradually opened its doors to tourism, but it has managed to retain its unique character and charm. The local community is deeply connected to the land and sea, and they are proud to share their traditions and way of life with visitors. Yelapa offers a variety of activities to suit every taste. Spend your days lounging on the beach, swimming in the turquoise waters, or exploring the nearby waterfalls. Take a hike through the jungle, go snorkeling or paddleboarding, or simply relax in a hammock with a good book. Don't miss the opportunity to sample the local cuisine, including fresh seafood, homemade pies, and the famous "Yelapa pie," a coconut cream pie that is a local specialty. You can find vendors selling these pies right on the beach!
Transportation
The only way to reach Yelapa is by boat. Water taxis depart regularly from the pier at Playa Los Muertos in Puerto Vallarta, as well as from Boca de Tomatlán. The boat ride takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour, offering stunning views of the coastline along the way. Be sure to confirm the return schedule with the boat operator.
