While Sky Reef itself doesn't have a deep historical background, its location on the coast of Cozumel is steeped in Mayan history. The island was once an important Mayan trading center and a sacred site dedicated to the goddess Ixchel. While you won't find ancient ruins directly at Sky Reef, the surrounding area is rich in archaeological sites that offer a glimpse into the island's fascinating past. Consider combining your visit to Sky Reef with a trip to San Gervasio, the largest Mayan ruin on Cozumel, to gain a deeper appreciation for the island's cultural heritage. The main draw of Sky Reef is undoubtedly the snorkeling and diving. The reef is easily accessible from the shore, making it perfect for beginners and experienced snorkelers alike. You can rent snorkeling gear on-site or bring your own. Divers will also find plenty to explore, with vibrant coral formations and a diverse array of marine life. After your underwater adventure, relax on the beach, enjoy a delicious meal at the on-site restaurant, or take a dip in the swimming pool. The restaurant serves a variety of Mexican and international dishes, with a focus on fresh seafood. Be sure to try the ceviche or the grilled fish tacos!
