Discover the breathtaking beauty of Tulum, an ancient Mayan city perched dramatically on a cliff overlooking the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. This unique archaeological site offers a stunning combination of history, culture, and natural beauty. Explore the well-preserved ruins, soak up the sun on the pristine beaches below, and immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere of this coastal paradise. Tulum, originally known as Zamá (meaning "dawn"), served as a major trading port and religious center for the Mayans between the 13th and 15th centuries. Its strategic location on the coast allowed it to control maritime trade routes. The city was one of the last Mayan cities to be inhabited, surviving for about 70 years after the Spanish conquest. Its well-preserved walls and structures offer a fascinating glimpse into the late Mayan period. A visit to Tulum is an unforgettable experience. Explore the iconic El Castillo (the castle), the tallest structure in Tulum, which served as a lighthouse and watchtower. Discover the Temple of the Frescoes, adorned with intricate Mayan paintings, and the Temple of the Descending God. After exploring the ruins, descend to the beach below and take a refreshing swim in the Caribbean Sea. Many visitors also enjoy exploring the nearby Gran Cenote or Dos Ojos Cenote for a unique swimming experience. While in Tulum, indulge in the local cuisine, which features fresh seafood, Mayan-inspired dishes, and delicious tacos. Try cochinita pibil, slow-roasted pork marinated in achiote paste, a Yucatecan specialty.
