Plage de l'Anse Azérot Guide
Anse Azérot Beach: A Tranquil Escape in Sainte-Marie Guide
Welcome to Plage de l'Anse Azérot, a beautiful and relatively secluded beach located in Sainte-Marie, Martinique. This beach offers a peaceful alternative to the more crowded tourist spots, making it perfect for those seeking relaxation and tranquility. With its calm waters, golden sand, and lush surroundings, Anse Azérot provides a picturesque setting for a day of sunbathing, swimming, and unwinding. While Anse Azérot doesn't have a deep historical narrative tied directly to it, the surrounding area of Sainte-Marie is rich in history. Sainte-Marie was one of the first areas colonized on Martinique and played a significant role in the island's agricultural past, particularly in the sugar cane industry. The nearby Habitation Fonds Saint-Jacques (mentioned later) offers a glimpse into this history. The beach itself, being a natural feature, has undoubtedly been a place of respite and recreation for locals for generations. At Anse Azérot, you can enjoy swimming in the calm, clear waters, perfect for families with children. Sunbathing on the soft sand is a must, and the shade provided by the trees lining the beach offers a welcome respite from the sun. Snorkeling is also a popular activity, allowing you to explore the underwater world. Pack a picnic to enjoy on the beach, or visit one of the local restaurants in Sainte-Marie for a taste of Martinican cuisine. While not directly on the beach, you'll find delicious seafood and Creole dishes nearby. Don't miss the opportunity to try accras (salt cod fritters) or colombo (a flavorful curry).
