Popeye Village Guide
Ahoy, Matey! Step into the Whimsical World of Popeye Village Guide
Popeye Village, also known as Sweethaven Village, is a unique and charming attraction located in Anchor Bay, near Mellieha. Originally built as the film set for the 1980 musical "Popeye," starring Robin Williams, the village has been transformed into a family-friendly theme park. Its colorful, ramshackle buildings and picturesque setting make it a delightful place to spend a day, especially for those with children or fans of the classic cartoon. The village was constructed in 1979 specifically for the "Popeye" movie. A crew of 165 worked for seven months to build the set, using logs imported from Holland and wood shingles from Canada. After filming wrapped, the set was preserved and opened to the public as a tourist attraction. Over the years, it has evolved into a popular destination, offering a variety of activities and entertainment for visitors of all ages. At Popeye Village, you can explore the quirky buildings, watch live shows featuring Popeye and his friends, take a boat ride around Anchor Bay (weather permitting), and enjoy various games and activities. There are also opportunities to meet the characters, participate in film-making experiences, and relax on the sun decks. During the summer months, the village offers water-based activities. While not specifically known for culinary traditions, the village has restaurants and snack bars offering standard fare.
