The Ninth Fort, located just outside Kaunas, Lithuania, stands as a somber memorial to the victims of Nazi atrocities during World War II. This former fortress, originally built in the late 19th century as part of the Kaunas Fortress system, became a site of mass executions, primarily of Jews, but also of Roma, Soviet prisoners of war, and political dissidents.
