The Obelisk Tomb is one of the first monumental structures you'll encounter as you approach Petra through the Siq. Carved into the sandstone cliffs, this tomb stands as a striking example of Nabataean funerary architecture. The Obelisk Tomb offers a fascinating introduction to the rich history and artistry of Petra. The Obelisk Tomb dates back to the 1st century AD and is believed to have been built for a wealthy Nabataean family. The obelisks are thought to represent the five individuals buried within the tomb. Below the Obelisk Tomb is the Bab as-Siq Triclinium, a dining hall where funerary feasts were held in honor of the deceased. The combination of the tomb and the triclinium provides insight into Nabataean burial rituals and beliefs. Visitors can view the Obelisk Tomb from the Bab as-Siq, the entrance to the Siq. Transportation
The Obelisk Tomb is located at the entrance to the Siq, just before the main Petra site. It is easily accessible on foot from the visitor center. Simply follow the path towards the Siq, and you will see the tomb carved into the cliffs on your right.
