It was renowned for its impregnability, thanks to its natural defenses and sophisticated fortifications. However, after a prolonged siege by the Mori clan, the Amago were eventually defeated, and the castle fell into their hands. The castle was later abandoned during the Edo period, and its structures gradually deteriorated. Visiting the Gassan Toda Castle Ruins involves a hike up Mount Gassan. The trail is well-maintained but can be challenging in some sections, so wear appropriate footwear and bring plenty of water. As you ascend, you'll pass through remnants of the castle's fortifications, including stone walls, moats, and gate foundations. Transportation
From JR Yasugi Station, take the Yasugi City Loop Bus (Blue Route) and get off at the 'Arashima' bus stop. From there, it's approximately a 45-minute to 1-hour hike to the castle ruins. Be aware that the bus service is infrequent, so check the timetable in advance.
