Lake Toya, nestled in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, is a stunning volcanic caldera lake renowned for its pristine beauty and year-round activities. The most recent eruption occurred in 2000, creating the Nishiyama Crater Walking Trail, a fascinating area where visitors can witness the raw power of nature and the ongoing volcanic activity. The area is also known for its hot springs, a result of the geothermal activity beneath the surface. Visitors to Lake Toya can enjoy a variety of activities. Transportation
From Sapporo, take the JR Limited Express Hokuto to Toya Station (approx. 1 hour 50 minutes). From Toya Station, take a Donan Bus to Lake Toya Onsen (approx. 15-20 minutes). Buses also run directly from Sapporo to Lake Toya Onsen, taking approximately 2 hours 30 minutes.
