Step back in time at Takamatsu Castle, also known as Tamamo Park, a beautiful oasis in the heart of Takamatsu. While the castle keep no longer stands, the remaining moats, stone walls, and reconstructed gates offer a fascinating glimpse into the region's feudal past. Today, the park is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, offering a tranquil escape from the bustling city. Takamatsu Castle was originally built in the late 16th century by the Ikoma clan. Its strategic location on the coast made it an important defensive stronghold. The castle was later taken over by the Matsudaira clan, who ruled the region for over 200 years. During the Meiji Restoration, the castle was dismantled, and only the moats and stone walls remained. In recent years, efforts have been made to reconstruct some of the castle's original structures, including the East Gate and the Tsukimi Yagura (moon-viewing turret). Visitors can explore the castle grounds, admire the impressive stone walls, and stroll along the moats. The Hiunkaku, a beautiful traditional building, is a must-see. You can also take a boat ride on the inner moat for a unique perspective of the castle ruins. The park is particularly beautiful during cherry blossom season, when the grounds are blanketed in pink.
