Escape to Hiyoriyama Park, a scenic hilltop park in Sakata offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Sea of Japan and the surrounding landscape. This park is a perfect spot for relaxation, enjoying nature, and capturing stunning photographs. With its historical significance, beautiful gardens, and coastal charm, Hiyoriyama Park is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Sakata. Hiyoriyama Park has a rich history as a strategic lookout point during the Edo period. Its elevated location provided a clear view of the sea, allowing for early detection of approaching ships. Over time, the park has been transformed into a beautiful recreational area, featuring meticulously maintained gardens, walking paths, and historical monuments. The park's lighthouse, one of the oldest in Japan, stands as a testament to Sakata's maritime heritage. Visitors to Hiyoriyama Park can enjoy a variety of activities. Take a leisurely stroll along the walking paths, admiring the seasonal flowers and the meticulously landscaped gardens. Climb to the top of the lighthouse for even more spectacular views of the coastline. Visit the nearby Sankyo Soko rice warehouses, a historical landmark that showcases Sakata's role as a major rice trading center. While Hiyoriyama Park itself doesn't have a specific culinary tradition, you can find numerous restaurants in Sakata offering fresh seafood and local specialties.
