Kegon Falls: Plunging Beauty in Nikko National Park Guide

Kegon Falls is arguably the most famous of Nikko's many waterfalls and is considered one of Japan's three most beautiful waterfalls. The breathtaking cascade plunges 97 meters (318 feet) down a cliff face, creating a spectacular display of nature's power and beauty. The surrounding scenery of Nikko National Park adds to the allure, making it a must-see destination for nature lovers and photographers. Kegon Falls is formed by the outflow of Lake Chuzenji. The water plunges down a volcanic rock cliff, creating a dramatic and awe-inspiring sight. The falls have been a popular tourist destination for centuries, and various viewing platforms have been constructed to provide visitors with the best possible views. In the winter, the falls sometimes freeze, creating a stunning icefall. Visitors can enjoy the falls from several viewing platforms, including a free observation platform and a paid elevator that takes you to the base of the falls for an even closer view. The surrounding area offers hiking trails and opportunities for exploring the natural beauty of Nikko National Park. Don't forget to try some local snacks and souvenirs available at the shops near the falls. While not specifically a culinary tradition tied directly to the falls, the area offers many restaurants serving Nikko's famous yuba dishes.
