Kitsuki Castle: A Small Castle with a Big View Guide

Kitsuki Castle, also known as Katsuyama Castle, is a reconstructed castle offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the Morie Bay. While smaller than some of Japan's more imposing castles, Kitsuki Castle boasts a charming presence and provides a fascinating insight into the history of the region. It's a perfect destination for those interested in Japanese history and stunning scenery. The original Kitsuki Castle was built in 1394 by the Kitsuki clan. It played a significant role in the local politics and defense of the area. The castle was dismantled during the Meiji Restoration in the late 19th century. The current castle is a reconstruction built in 1970, based on historical records and illustrations. While not an original structure, it faithfully recreates the appearance of the former castle and houses a museum showcasing local history and artifacts. Visitors can explore the castle's interior, which features exhibits on the history of Kitsuki and the castle itself. Climb to the top floor for breathtaking views of the surrounding area, including the city of Kitsuki, the Morie Bay, and the distant mountains. The castle grounds also offer pleasant walking paths and opportunities to appreciate the surrounding natural beauty. The castle is particularly beautiful during the cherry blossom season.
